Yes, the report on worldwide inequality South Africa prepared has been taken down and the focus of this year's America-hosted G20 will be "limiting regulatory burdens", "energy supply chains" and "pioneering new technologies." This may not generate as much excitement around the world. At least not with the public. I'm sure there are a lot of tech oligarchs who are excited by this.
This will affect us – not least because the next host after the US is the UK. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said so far that we'll focus on growth, opportunity, and stability. Our challenge in the coming year, then, is stop the UK from continuing to block international efforts to build a more equal global economy, as we have in the past. Instead, we need to restart the efforts to tax billionaires and stop inequality. We'll have the opportunity – but will our government have the courage?
