Hi ,
The King's Speech had some important first steps – but there's too much that needs action now.
Ahead of the King's Speech, we wrote to every newly-elected MP in the House of Commons and coordinated an open letter calling for the immediate commencement of the socio-economic duty from our #1forEquality campaign group signed by Amnesty, Shelter, the Royal College of Physicians, Resolve Poverty, Just Fair and more.
We need to put pressure on our new MPs to take inequality seriously, and the King's Speech shows us why. There were important first steps on a number of issues, including plans for more public involvement in the economy, devolution, and expanding workers and renters rights, but on so many crises – climate, housing, cost-of-living, water, poverty – the measures plan to leave the flawed structures in place.
On several particular immediate actions we need to take, the King's Speech fell short. And here's where you come in. |
