Hi ,
We're halfway through the snap election and by tomorrow, all the major pan-UK parties will have released their manifestos. Are they enough?
Speaking at the debate, Green leader Carla Denyer called the crisis we're in a cost of inequality crisis and, in many ways, the manifestos released so far seem to agree. The Lib Dems used the press attention from their manifesto launch to focus on their plans to increase taxes on wealth, while the Conservatives briefed the Times that even they couldn't find a way to justify calling for huge tax cuts for the richest while cutting social security.
Even a few years ago, this level of political support for the idea that the rich have gotten away with too much was unthinkable. It's thanks to you and many other campaigns and charities that we've gotten this far together!
The question now is just as much about what happens after the election as it is about the election itself. Regardless of pledges, whoever wins will be grappling with massive, overlapping crises and come under enormous pressure from wealth and power to ensure those crises aren't fixed. |
